ALI KETHUDA MOSQUE
Ali Kethüda Mosque is an important structure in Sarıyer, Istanbul, bearing the unique features of classical Ottoman architecture. Built in 1690 by Grand Vizier Kethüda Ali Efendi during the reign of Sultan Mustafa II, it is a characteristic mosque with a rectangular plan, stone walls, and a wooden roof.
Its plan was designed as a rectangle extending in the qibla direction; it has a simple but functional interior layout and walls adorned with synthetic mosaics. The mosque, which was originally right on the coast, was moved inland after coastal reclamation.
In the project we carried out as Biconsilio Furniture Design and Restoration, we undertook a comprehensive renovation process that preserved the original structure of the mosque while meeting contemporary requirements.
All wooden doors and windows have been meticulously restored, staying true to the mosque's original structure. The historical character has been preserved, while also enhancing durability. Inside, specially produced wall coverings have been used to evoke the mosque's historical atmosphere, contributing aesthetically to the integrity of the space. The floors have been restored with great care, both aesthetically and functionally. The ceiling lath coverings, an important element within the mosque's interior, have been repaired in accordance with their original structure, and visual integrity has been restored.
The ablution area has been renovated with both hygiene and aesthetics in mind. Designed to meet modern needs without disturbing the historical texture, durable materials have been chosen for this section, combining traditional motifs with modern design elements.
