IMM Stone School
Located in Büyükada and built as a summer residence in the second half of the 19th century by Greek Orthodox Patriarch Sophronius, the building was first known as "Sophronius Mansion." In 1922, it was expropriated by the Istanbul Municipality and named "Köprülü Mehmed Paşa Model School." From 1925 onwards, it began serving as "Büyükada Primary School." For many years, the building provided education to island children, functioning as both a primary and secondary school until 1967. However, in 1978, due to fire risk, it was evacuated and subsequently left to its fate for a long time.
The extensive restoration process carried out in 2023 aimed to both preserve the historical value of the structure and repurpose it to meet current needs. One of the most striking parts of the restoration process was the kitchen area, designed by Biconsilio. Redesigned with an elegant combination of wood and metal, the kitchen blends the historical atmosphere with modern requirements, presenting it to the user. The complementary furniture used within the structure was also specially designed and produced to ensure the aesthetic integrity of the building.
